Frequently Asked Questions
Are you a registrar and can you legally marry us?
No, I am a celebrant! Registrars are clerks to the Crown and are therefore restricted by how and where they can perform wedding ceremonies. Those who elect to have a celebrant-led wedding arrange to see the registrar a few days before (or after) and perhaps bring a handful of family or friends to witness this simple legality. To register your intention to marry you need to contact your local council office for births, deaths and marriages and they can book a slot at the registry office.
Are your ceremonies religious?
I am not religious and do not perform ceremonies derived from any one religion. Depending on your preferences I draw upon a variety of cultural and traditional practices, as I find that even the most atheistic approach to holding ceremony benefits from a grounding in gratitude for what we have around us. The creative process of designing a ceremony which is exactly right for you is one of my core skills. If you have any specific religious practices or beliefs, I would be really happy to work with you to enable these aspects to be honoured during the ceremony.
What is the current situation with social gatherings and COVID-19?
At the time of writing, the first Covid 19 vaccines are being rolled out in hospitals and to the most vulnerable in our communities. Many people are hopeful that by spring 2021, the availability of the vaccine will be widespread and that many of the restrictions currently in place on social gatherings will be eased. I am keeping myself informed of changes via the government website which is regularly updated. You can find out more about the restrictions in your area by visiting (https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus). If you would like to discuss with me your ideas for your social gathering in relation to COVID-19 please do get in touch.
What is your refund policy if the gathering cannot go ahead due to COVID-19?
If you have to cancel your ceremony due to a principle person or significant family member having COVID-19 I will offer a full refund minus the deposit up to 2 weeks before the date of the event. The deposit serves a dual function in that it secures the booking (I will not take any other work offered to me on this date) and it pays for the initial work that we do together in preparing for your ceremony. If your COVID-19 related cancellation falls within the final 2 weeks before the event, I will offer you a postponement and work with you to secure a new date. Please note that in such circumstances you may be asked to provide proof of a positive test. My Terms & Conditions and Cancellation policy is available on request and is given as standard at the time of booking, but if you have any further enquiries about this please do give me a call.
Will you travel outside of the South West for our event?
Yes I am happy to travel provided travel expenses are met and reasonable accommodation facilities are provided where necessary.
We have some quite wacky ideas for our big day, are you up for that?
Yes! I’d be delighted to facilitate any weird or wonderful surprises you might have up your sleeve: I don’t speak Dothraki but could learn some?! I can help you plan for a themed ceremony or whatever quirks you have in mind to make the day extra special and totally unique.
